Nothing was going to stop this Oklahoma man from getting down on one knee and popping the question to his girlfriend. For many people, a handcuffed proposal might not be ideal, but for Leandria Keith, it was perfect.
Brandon Thompson‘s birthday celebration on July 4 – America’s Independence Day – took a dive when police pulled up to his Muskogee home to arrest him.
What’s more, they allowed him savour his smoke.
The cops arrested the 35-year-old on charges that included burglary and firearm possession.
But the day’s drama was only getting started as Thompson chose that moment to propose to his girlfriend, Leandria Keith.
Thompson asked the officers if he could propose to his girlfriend, a request the stunned officers admirably agreed to.
He then asked his mum to help get his ring while officers watched on as he went down on one knee, handcuffed, and popped the question.
Keith said yes and officers allowed moved the handcuffed hands of Thompson from the back to the front to allow him slip the ring on her finger.
‘I didn’t want to part ways with her not showing exactly how I feel for her,’ Thompson later told CNN by phone. ‘I want her to be my wife for the rest of my life.’
On her part, Keith told local TV, ‘I knew I was gonna say yes. Like I love him a lot. We go through our ups and downs.
‘I guess it’s like an unconditional love.’
Muskogee Police Department spokesperson, Lincoln Anderson confirmed the shock of officers at the moment, but also hoped it sets Thompson straight.
‘Maybe by him taking this step to propose to her, so they can get married, he can take a step to getting his life together and putting these warrants behind him and improving the life of his kids and his future wife,’ Anderson said.
