As we all know, this is the beginning of a new year and it is advisable to start on a fresh note-having an organised wardrobe is a major key to developing a proper and detailed lifestyle. Do you know that most people only wear 20% of the clothes they own and leave 80% unused thereby cluttering precious space..So true!

Therefore, to make dressing easy for you this year, I'll give you five universal steps that can be applied to having a perfectly organised wardrobe. Feel free to share your comments below...

1. Know what you need

Do this by making a list of the clothes you have worn in the last month and the reason they were worn. Then check your closet for all the unworn clothes, the reason they were not worn, and if you would ever wear them (using a mirror that accommodates your entire image).

2. Clear out the unused/unwanted/off-season clothing

Clear out your closet of all the unused, unwanted and off-season items before adding anything new. Keep the items that are out of season in a storage area. When sorting out the clothing items to keep and the ones to dispose, ask yourself these questions;

Do you love it?
Can you wear it?
Does it project your image?
Do people appreciate it on you?

If the answer is YES, then you can confidently place that item in your wardrobe.

3. Plan and maximize storage

Now that you have made the hardest decision of removing all the unwanted and keeping the essentials, it's time to put everything in an orderly and sensible way. Group like and like together (>>types>>colors>>importance) and decide where to store them (hangers, racks, boxes, etc).

Reserve the front and middle of your closet for clothes you wear most often and the lesser worn or out-of-season items should be stored towards the back and on the upper shelves. Make sure to utilize your wardrobe space properly.

4. Shop for the essentials before trendy items

Know what items you will need, what colors and lines will look best on your skin color and personality before you go shopping. Let your personal style take effect here, buy less trendy outfits, prioritize your budget and stay focused. Keep the basics at the top of your shopping list, season-less items and accessories next then trendy items last. By doing this, you will be able to bypass items that just hang useless in your wardrobe.

5. Maintain wardrobe organization

The more often you work on cloth maintenance, the less time you'll spend in organizing it. Go through your wardrobe and complete a quick make-over once a month and tackle the full re-organization process twice a year.

Stay stylish guys and remember to share as always...
