Stargist Exclusive: How I Ventured Into Acting – Frederick Leonard

Dashing Nollywood actor and model, Frederick Leonard who was born Frederick Nnaemeka Leonard in an exclusive chat with Stargist.com revealed why he ventured into acting, his love for playing diverse roles in Nollywood and his current relationship status.

SG: Where are you from?

Anambra state.

SG: Where did you school & what did you study?

I schooled in Kaduna State polytechnic and I read Biochemistry.

SG: How did you venture into acting?

What fascinates me most about acting is that you can reshape the society through storytelling apart from just entertaining.

SG: How long have you been acting?

Next year (2018) would be my 10th year in the movie industry.

SG: What were your breakthrough roles?

Well, I’d say ‘Indian Doctor’ (2008), Tv series, ‘Disclosure’ (2009), ‘Spirit of the season’ (2009) but I think Accident (2013) should be top on the list as I won series of awards as a result of the role I played in the movie.

SG: What’s the strangest thing you have heard from a fan?

In 2009/2010, after I acted as a Hindi in ‘Indian Doctor’ a church member approached me once in church and said, ‘I didn’t know you were a christian’ (laughs).

SG: Do you get used to being a celebrity?

No, Not all. I am still the same old me. Nothing has changed.I still go to the same church and visit the same barber too.  I still keep my old friends. Social status doesn’t change who you really are.

SG: Are you single?

What can I say (giggles). I am not married so technically I am single.

SG:  Any plans of getting married soon?

Sure.. I am not getting any younger…I am in my late thirties.

SG: So, it’s been observed that in two of your recent movies, ‘Enigma’ &  ‘The Box TV’ you played the role of a police officer. Any particular reason behind this?

It was just a coincidence. I was quite enthusiastic about playing both roles. In ‘Enigma’, I was the good guy while in ‘The Box TV’ the reverse was the case. Typically, I love playing diverse roles. Of course, because of my looks, it’d be expected that I’d play mostly ‘lover-boy’ roles but I love diversity.
