Aisha Lawal is a Nigerian Movie Producer, Actress, Entertainer, Interior decorator, Event Planner and a Producer more popular in the Yoruba movie sector.

In an interview with Punch, the actress talked about her background and journey to acting.

Here’s the interview:

Background

I am from a family of three children and I am the second child. My mother is a secondary school principal and my father is deceased. I attended Adeen International School for my primary education. Thereafter, I proceeded to Federal Government College, Ogbomoso, for my post-primary education. I did my A levels in Ilorin, Kwara State, before I went to Lead City University, Ibadan, for my first degree in law and subsequently went for my chamber attachment. I later did a second degree in public administration.

Acting

When I was in 400 level in the university, we were encouraged to go and undergo a vocational course so that we would be empowered and not necessarily wait for government employment upon graduation. I thought about learning cake making but, I later stumbled on a movie audition and said to myself that, ‘‘I can do this.’’ Afterwards, I attended J15 School of Performing Arts, owned by Femi Adebayo to hone my acting skills. The first movie that I featured in was Adunmadete and it was a waka pass role. I remember that I was quite frightened as it was my first time of facing a camera and I was on the same set with Funke Akindele-Bello and Toyin Abraham. Even though I played the role of a prostitute, I didn’t want to wear a short dress but I had to do so eventually. After that, I have featured in several movies and I’ve even lost count.

Movie production

As a producer, I have churned out movies including Imu Nika, Opon Ife and many others. While I attended J15 School of Performing Arts, I majored in scriptwriting and acting, so it was easy for me to make the transition from acting to producing. When I wrote my first story, my boss, Femi Adebayo showed me the proper ways to do things.

Challenges

When I first started, I used to tell my boss that I don’t want to do this anymore and I’d rather go back to the courtroom. It was not easy sleeping at locations but somehow, I’ve been able to pull through and I’m waxing stronger. I always tell those coming into the industry to have an education because the difference between you and the next person is that you have to be extraordinary. There are a lot of issues in the industry and one has to be very proactive.

Personality

I’m a Gemini so basically, I have two different characters. One minute, I can be very friendly and outgoing, the next minute, I may just want to recoil and be on my own. I don’t know how to hide my feelings because I’m very blunt, but once I tell you what’s on my mind, I’ve forgotten about it. In the next five minutes, I am thinking of something else. I always strive to be successful and lead a balanced life.

Likes and dislikes

I like reading a lot. For instance, I’m reading an old book by Danielle Steel and I sort of pick up energy and vibes from the novel. I also love to spend time with my family.

Relaxation

When I’m not working, I just sleep. Sometimes, I watch movies or series like Game of Thrones or Prison Break.

Role models

My major role model is American actress, Julia Roberts. I love her personality as well as her great acting skills. I grew up with such a deep admiration for her. Femi Adebayo also serves a mentor because he is my boss and there are no airs about him.

Embarrassing moments

I have had quite a few unpleasant moments but when they happen, I just try to balance things up and take it in my stride. Seven years ago, I was in a public transport with a colleague and some guys seated behind us jeered at us for not having cars. It’s just one of those things that come with being in the limelight.

Fashion

Sometimes, my job dictates what I wear but most times, I wear a pair of slacks and tank top. I like to move around in tracksuits, trousers and crop tops but because of the kind of job that I do, people may frown at that type of dressing.
