Zinedine Yazid Zidane  nicknamed “Zizou”, is a retired French footballer and current manager of Real Madrid. He played as an attacking midfielder for the France national team, Cannes, Bordeaux, Juventus and Real Madrid.

An elite playmaker, renowned for his elegance, vision, ball control and technique, Zidane was named the best European footballer of the past 50 years in the UEFA Golden Jubilee Poll in 2004. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.

ince joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2001, Zinedine Zidane has left his mark on the club’s history. Both as a player and a coach. As coach he has won three titles: European Cup, European Cup, European Super Cup and Club World Cup. His talent as an elite coach has not stopped him from breaking records, bettering the statistics of historic Whites’ coaches.

His record in his first 70 games at the helm of Real Madrid is the best ever, in the 115-year history of the club: 51 games won, 14 draws, 5 defeats, 194 goals scored and 71 conceded.

Historic record in Spanish football
With Zidane on the bench, Real Madrid put together a 40 game unbeaten run from April 2016 to January 2017. In that period, the team won 30 games and drew ten, scored 115 goals and conceded 39.

Few sportsmen can boast of having won the Champions League as a coach and as a player. Zidane is one of them. He also won the top continental title as assistant coach with Carlo Ancelotti. The Frenchman and Miguel Muñoz are the only people in the history of Real Madrid who have achieved this milestone as a player and a coach.

The team under Zidane’s leadership have scored at least one goal in 49 consecutive games. Real Madrid have been on the scoresheet in every match since the 0-0 against Manchester City on 26 April 2016 in the Champions League. It is the best run by a Spanish team, beating the record that Barcelona held of 44 games.

As a player he had already left moments of his quality in the memory of the madridistas. The volley which he scored when winning the ninth European Cup, his magic goal against Deportivo and countless touches, controls and dribbles, all mean that when people talk about Zidane, they talk about good football.
