15 Nigerian Musicians Who Expanded Their Horizons By Dabbling Into Acting

 

In the entertainment industry, many musicians who have excelled in their craft have resorted to carving a niche for themselves in the movie industry.

1 Davido

Pop artiste, Davido, made his acting debut in the Nollywood movie titled John Zerebe in 2015. The flick also stars Gloria Young, Ikey Ojeogwu, Kanfui Danku, Emma Blaq and Mimi Orjiekwe. He also starred in a movie shot by Nollywood actress, Eniola Badmus in New York.

2 Ice Prince

Chocolate City act, Ice Prince, explored acting when he featured in the 2013 film Heart of Gold. The rapper worked alongside Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, Eddie Watson and Francis Odega. He also starred in an episode of the MTV series, Shuga.

3 Cynthia Morgan

 

Cynthia Morgan featured in ‘The Wrong Number’ alongside Ruth Kadiri, Cynthia Morgan, Daniel Lloyd and also made a cameo appearance in AY Makun’s  film “A Trip To Jamaica”.

4 Chidinma

Chidinma is the latest artist to dab into the movie industry as she makes her debut into Nollywood in Kunle Afoloyan’s Movie”Stella and Oba”.

5 Banky W

Nigerian R&B star, Banky W shot to limelight as an actor when he played the role of Dozie Onwuka in record-breaker  movie, ‘The Wedding Party’.

6 Sean Tizzle

Sean Tizzle, surprised everyone when he was photographed on set of Iyabo Ojo’s movie, Astray (Isina). He acted alongside A-list actors like Muyiwa Ademola, Odunlade Adekola, Fadekemi Momoh and Ayo Adesanya.

7 Ikechukwu

Ikechukwu is a trained actor also who studied at the New York Film Academy and decided to go into acting and movie production. Ikechukwu played Mo who was love interest to Eki played by Titilope Sonuga on the popular online series ‘Gidi Up’ and has also featured in ‘Gbomo Gbomo Express’ with Osas Ajibade and Gideon Okeke.

8 Tiwa Savage

Like Ice Prince, Mavin’s leading lady, Tiwa Savage, also featured in the MTV series, Shuga, but instead of showing as a guest act on the popular series, the songstress featured in a whole season. The mother of one played the role of Sade, Badoo Tree Nightclub owner and guardian to an HIV patient.

9 Iyanya

The latest addition to the mavins amily, Iyanya set out to try something new when he starred in Superstar alongside Bryan Okwara, Jide Kosoko, Toyin Aimakhu and Rachel Oniga.

10 Omawumi

Omawumi’s Nollywood debut was in 2013 when she starred in the Yvonne Nelson produced movie, Heart of Gold alongside Majid Michel, Yvonne Nelson, Eddie Watson and Francis Odega. The songbird also appeared in the dance themed movie, Make a Move in 2014.

11 Tuface Idibia

Nigerian music sensation, Tuface Idibia gave a shot at acting as he  joined Omawumi and Denrele in the movie ‘Make a Move’ produced by budding actress and AMVCA winner, Ivie Okujaye, the movie also starred Majid Michel, Beverly Naya, Wale Adebayo and Tina Mba.

12 Falz

Falz won the award for Best Actor in a Comedy at the AMVCA 2016. This award was for his role in Funke Akindele’s series, Jenifa Diaries . Falz was also in the movie ‘A Couple of Days’ with Adesua Etomi

13 Waje

Waje played the role of a married mother alongside Femi Jacobs, Patrick Doyle,Nse Ikpe Etim and others. It was directed by Stanley Ohikhuare and tells a story of a couple battling to save their daughter’s life and their marriage.

14 Tekno

Tekno made his debut in a movie called ‘Superstar’ in 2015. It featured AY Makun, Angel Ufuoma, Ushbebe, Bryan Okwara, Jide Kosoko, Toyin Aimaku, Tina Amuziam, Rachel Oniga and more.

15 Lami Philips

Lami has been acting since high school with a love for theatre and stage performances. She started off as a musician but has since ventured to her true calling with a debut in the popular ‘Saro the Musical’ in 2015. She also acted in Kemi Lala Akindoju stage play ‘London Life Lagos Living’ sometime in 2015.
