Nigerian film industry, Nollywood is undoubtedly Africa’s largest movie industry that is rich with masterpieces that educated and entertained fans years ago.

In the spirit of Throwback thursdays, Stargist.com presents you 12 old Nollywood movies that are undeniably classic .

1 Living In Bondage

The story which told in the movie is about the man who killed his wife in a ritual sacrifice because he wanted to advance in power and wealth. However, not everything is so easy and, as a result, the man is hunted by his wife’s ghost.

2 Domitilla

The main story line was of how young girls get into in the quest to survive. Sometimes, they’re fuelled by greed, some other times by need, peer pressure and in the end the become morally derailed.

3 Aki na Ukwa

The film starring OsitaIheme, Chinedu Ikedieze, Amaechi Muonagor and Oby Kechere was about two young troublesome brothers cause disruption in home life, terrorize the people in their village and wreak havoc at school

4  Nneka The Pretty Serpent


The movie starred Ndidi Obi as the lead character Nneka, a mermaid disguised as human whose mission on earth was to go after married men.

5 Saworoide

Saworoide depicts the setting of an old Yoruba norm in the town of Jogbo where a person can not be crowned king without the saworoide being played by the right person.

6 Oleku

The movie tells the story of Ajani, a final year student of the University of Ibadan in search of a life partner due to pressures from his mother. He finds himself in a love quadrangle as he becomes involved with three beautiful women- Asake, his old time girl friend; Lola, a first year student he just met; and Sade, a childhood acquaintance who gradually becomes the centre stage of the love drama.

Oleku is a timeless love classic which sparked a fashion revolution in Nigeria with the short aso oke Iro and Buba which is still called Oleku today.

7 Diamond Ring

The movie starred Tuju Babyface (Teju Gbade- Oyelakin) as the young smart Chidi, who was cajoled by his friends to join a cult group. To prove his worthiness, he was instructed to rob from a corpse.

8 Glamour Girls

The ever green movie was produced by Kenneth Nnebue featuring Liz Benson, Eucharia Anunobi, Gloria Anozie, Zack Orji, Barbra Odoh and Dolly Unachukwu.

9 Most Wanted

The movie was Genevieve Nnaji’s debut Nollywood movie. The movie tells the story of four unemployed female graduates who failed at getting a job. They decide to try robbery. Disguising themselves as men, they carried out all operations swiftly.

10 Owo Blow

Owo-Blow has been rated one of the greatest Nigerian movies of all time. Shot in 1995/96, it stars Femi Adebayo, Rachel Oniga, Bimbo Akintola, Taiwo Hassan, Sunday Afolabi, Lanre Balogun, Ayo Mogaji, Lanre Hassan, Jide Kosoko, Sam Loco-Efe and Yinka Quadri.

11 Violated

The film tells the story of a young man Tega Richard Mofe Damijo from a wealthy background who falls in love and marries Peggy (Ego Boyo) who came from a different background. However, their marriage is put to the test when hidden secrets unfolds, Tega’s ex-wife re-appears in his life and he also learnt about his ex-boss relationship with his wife when she was young.

12 Madam Dearest

The story focuses on Bukola and her husband, Biodun who have been childless after so many years of marriage. An unfortunate accident occurs and Biodun is wrongfully blamed for it and sentenced to 85 years in prison. With no prospect of seeing her husband again, Bukola very reluctantly begins an affair with her Ghanaian houseboy, Kofi and they fall in love with each other. She bears a child for him, naming the son, Kofi Junior.

Their happy life becomes disrupted when Biodun comes back home unexpectedly from prison. He was released only three years into his jail sentence. In her confused state, she claims Junior is actually Biodun’s son.
