Background

I’m from Esan, Edo State. My mum died when I was five and even though I cannot remember much of what happened prior to that time, we were really close. Growing up, my dad was a disciplinarian but looking back now, I’m grateful to him for ensuring that I turned out to be a well-behaved adult.

Education

I grew up in Lagos where I had my primary and junior secondary education. Afterwards, I left for Benin, where I had my senior secondary education. I did a six-month basic course at the University of Port Harcourt and a Diploma in Social Work at the University of Lagos.

Modelling

As a child, I didn’t know what career to settle for but my dad wanted me to become a lawyer. However, I kicked off my entertainment career by being an usher and I worked with several companies. I later became a model and won my first beauty pageant, Miss Valentine International, in 2009. I also worked with some designers like Lanre Da Silva and Zizi Cardow. I am no longer a model because I don’t feel comfortable combining it with acting and TV presenting.

TV

The first presenting job I got was The Squeeze, which was produced by Ultima Studios. While I was working with Ultima Studios, I also hosted a technology show called What’s Hawt and Project Fame red carpet sessions. Along the line, I was called to partake in a screen test for Trending on HipTv and I got the job. I’ve been anchoring the show since then.

Acting

While working as a model, I met a Ghanaian director who told me I have the charisma and gait of an actress. He invited me for an audition but I was not successful. Some weeks afterwards, I was invited to audition for another role in a TV show called Echoes. Even though I got the role, I wasn’t really interested in acting because I was saving to go to aviation school. Somehow, I found my way back to acting.

Breakthrough

I think all the jobs I’ve done are major, so I wouldn’t single one out. I don’t keep count of all the productions I’ve been involved in but I know they are more than 10.

Scripts

I like to take scripts that challenge me and in particular, roles I have never played before. One of the most exciting roles I’ve played is one where I had to do a lot of fighting and jumping. I even injured myself in the process but I enjoyed it. To get into character, I think of people who are going through the same thing and that spurs me on. No matter how bizarre or outrageous a storyline seems, it is the true experience of many people.

Challenges

As a model, a major challenge I had was that I had to attend a lot of auditions. Many of them were unsuccessful not because I wasn’t pretty enough but because I wasn’t suitable for some particular roles. However, that period toughened me and now I know how to handle disappointments. When it comes to acting, tight schedules are pretty challenging as there are times when I have to be on set all day.

Sexual harassment

There is sexual harassment everywhere, even in church. As for me, I don’t even think about it. God has blessed me with looks that any man would want to go for. If I can date you, I would and if I cannot, I won’t be forced or coerced into doing so.

Lessons

Keep going ahead. Even if you don’t get something, keep going because it only means there is something better ahead. Nothing good comes easy and the people who are up there today also experienced tough times.

Role models

In Nigeria, I adore Genevieve Nnaji, Nse Ikpe-Etim, Mercy Johnson, Rita Dominic and others who have paved the way for the new generation of actors. On the international scene, I love Angela Bassett, Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Dakota Fanning, among others.

Fashion

Fashion to me means expressing my inner self, looking good and being comfortable. However, what is comfortable to me might not be so for another person. For example, I have no problems baring my cleavage and my legs but some people might not be able to do that. The fashion items I love most are my nose ring and high heels. I’m quite adventurous in my style, so I don’t know if there’s anything I cannot wear.

Relaxation

I unwind by watching TV. I also like going to the beach because it helps me think, reflect and be one with nature.
